(Opening card.) Felicity in "Best Friends Forever" Written by Adelina Peterson lovethebanglesforever (a) gmail.com INT: Hartley Wallace Preparatory School, Cafeteria BGM: The Cure - Friday, I'm In Love (Felicity sits alone in the cafeteria, trying out the cafeteria food. Today was macaroni and cheese, and she seems content. Then, a girl comes around passing out envelopes, and approaches Felicity.) (This unknown girl taps her shoulder.) Felicity: (startled) Oh, hey. Um, what was your name again? Girl: Oh! I'm Haley Tucker. We have French class together! Felicity: (V.O., thought) Oh, shoot. That's the class with Miss Morrison with the soothing voice. (out loud) Sorry. Doesn't ring a bell. (She shrugs.) Haley: Well, that's fine! (handing over one of her envelopes) You're still invited to my party! Felicity: (taking the envelope) Well, what's this party for? Haley: It's just whatever! Felicity: Oh, right. Uh. Thanks for the invitation, but- Haley: (interrupting, sounding desperate) You'll come, right?! Please come! It's tonight, so it's on short notice, but like, it's Friday anyway! You can totally be there, right? Felicity: (dazed) Uh, I'll try. Haley: Thank youuu! (She squeals, and then, she walks away.) (Felicity watches her walk away, and once Haley started to talk to her friends, she immediately called up Mal. The screen splits into Felicity's cafeteria scene and Mal's study hall scene.) (Mal answers, but she tries to talk quietly. She attempts to hide her phone from the supervising teacher.) Mal: (quietly) What is it, Cici? I'm in study hall. Felicity: We need to talk. Mal's teacher (on the other side): Miss Schletter! What are you doing with your phone out in study hall? Mal: Oh! Mrs. Campbell, I'm calling my, uh, grandma, yes. Mrs. Campbell: (worried) Oh, dear! I hope she's fine, how is she? Mal: Well, uh. She really REALLY needs to talk to me. (She stands up.) And um, (starting to walk out of the classroom with her phone in hand, dragging along Gigi by the arm, who was sitting next to her) she also REALLY needs to talk to Gigi about, um, getting, a... renewal of her passport, or something. Gigi: Uh, yeah! Totes! (Hearing this, Felicity tries to stifle her laughs.) (Cut to a view of the hallway. Mal and Gigi get out of the door as fast as they could.) Mal: (in a hurry) This better be good, because I'm gonna feel the wrath of Miss Campbell once I get back into that room. Felicity: Yeah, um. I can't watch American Gothic with you guys tonight. Gigi: (gasp) Oh my god! Are you sick? Felicity: Probably. I got invited to a party by this girl at school and I kinda want to go. Mal: (teasing) Aw, our little baby's all grown up! Felicity: Oh, shut up, Mal. Gigi: Make sure you introduce us to any cute guys! (Felicity hung up on them.) (Cut to:) INT: Sunnyside Apartments, Unit 507, Felicity's Room BGM: Bruce Springsteen - Hungry Heart (Felicity, Gigi, and Mal are all standing in front of Felicity's dresser. Gigi is looking through the clothes in the drawer. It is around 6PM, and sunset is approaching.) Felicity: You know, Gigi, you really don't need to do this. Gigi: No, I need you to look fabulous in front of the rich people. Mal: Which is code for, she needs someone to model her outfit ideas and you're the only one willing to do that. Gigi: (holding up a red dress) Try out this one. Felicity: (taking the dress) God, Gigi, I'm going to a high school house party, not the Met Gala. Gigi: (starting to laugh) Silly, Cici! The Met Gala's too formal of an event to be wearing THAT! (Felicity sighs as Mal and Gigi hold up a blanket to cover Felicity's body they look the opposite direction. The blanket wiggles a bit.) Felicity: I'm done changing. (They drop the blanket, and by coincidence, Daria walks in the room, finally home from work.) Daria: I'm home, Lis-- (looking up at Felicity) Oh, okay, fashionista. Felicity: Mom, this is not what it looks like. Daria: (a bit defensive) Hey, hey, I don't know what Jane told you but I'm not against you wanting to dip into fashion... or makeup... or dates... Felicity: Mom, I'm just going to this party that my classmate is hosting, it's reallynot that of a big deal. Daria: (surprised) Oh. So, um. You need me to walk you there? You'll be staying out late. Felicity: Sure thing. (Daria gets her phone out of her bag and dials Jane.) Daria: Alright, Jane. We've got a little Princess Grace in our hands-- Felicity: MOM! (Cut to a commercial card of Felicity talking to Haley in the cafeteria.) -- Commercial Break -- (The commercials end. The card displays the scene of Daria walking in on Felicity wearing her red dress.) (Cut to) EXT: Somewhere in E. 95th Street BGM: The Bangles - Walking Down Your Street (Felicity, Daria, Mal, Gigi, and Jane all walk down the street. Felicity is wearing the same red dress Gigi picked out of the dresser.) Jane: So you're sure it's not a date. Felicity: (annoyed) Very sure. Gigi: Aw, Cici! Don't be so down in the dumps! Maybe someday someone right for you will appear! Mal: Or someone wrong for you. (sigh) Ugh... Jane: (patting Mal's back) Valley Boy's still not answering? Mal: Yeah. I wish I never told him my first name. He doesn't deserve to feel that special. Jane: You'll be fine. Probably. Mal: (sarcastically) Thanks, Miss Lane. That totally helped. (The group stops in front of an apartment building. This one particularly looks like one that Felicity couldn't even dream of living in.) Jane: Well, this is it. Felicity: Yup. Daria: Well, I'll see you later, Felicity. Felicity: Yeah. Thanks. (turning to Mal and Gigi) You sure you guys don't wanna go? Mal: That's just not our scene, man. Gigi: Good luck, though! We'll be cheering you on from... the restaurant we're about to go to! (Cut to:) INT: Haley's home, the penthouse BGM: The Ronettes - Be My Baby (Felicity knocks on the door. Haley opens it.) Haley: (surprised) Oh my gosh! Felicity, you caaaame! Felicity: Yeah, I'm surprised too. Haley: (walking Felicity into the main room) Well, there's chips and the usual, feel free to eat whatever! (Felicity nodded, and then she takes a paper bowl. She takes a few chips and goes over to the wall. She looks around and eats her chips. She watches the other attendees, and sees Haley pulling a boy's arm.) Boy: Gah! What the hell, Haley? Haley: Seb! Get back here, stop flirting with Mandy, you're my date, remember? Seb: Haley, I just said I'd come to your party. You never said anything about me having to be your date! Haley: I told you! Stop pretending you didn't hear! Seb: Okay, fine, I heard! You happy? Haley: (frustrated) DO YOU HAVE A BRAIN?! (Pan to Felicity watching the drama unfold in front of her. She is amused for a second, smiling a little, but just sighs at the end.) (Cut to) INT: An unknown restaurant on E. 95th Street (Daria, Jane, Gigi, and Mal are all sitting at the cafe, staring at each other as they wait for their drinks.) Daria: I still can't believe you guys ditched your show. Mal: Oh, Miss Morgendorffer, how could I ever miss a drunk Felicity? Daria: She's gonna get drunk? Gigi: Accidentally! Daria: She's much smarter than that. Probably. Jane: Probably. Daria: Mmm... yeah. (The waitress serves their drinks. Daria and Jane got coffee, and Mal and Gigi got strawberry smoothies.) Waitress: You want anything else? Gigi: Onion rings. Waitress: Alright. (walking away) (They stay silent for a brief moment.) Mal: So, Miss Lane, what's up with you these days? Jane: Oh, the same old, same old. Painting old men in terror. Mal: You gotta switch it up someday. Daria: Someday. (Cut to:) INT: Haley's penthouse BGM: We The Kings - Check Yes Juliet (Felicity was still leaning against the wall. She was thinking about leaving the party until she looked up to see a familiar older guy pulling on a freshman girl, then putting his arm around her.) College Guy: Come on, aren't girls like you into guys like me? Freshman Girl: Well, I'm really sorry, but um, I'm just not into you. College Guy: Aw, why not? (Felicity walked over to the two.) Felicity: Hands off. (Startled, the boy throws his hands up.) College Guy: Hey, hey. I'm not doing anything. Felicity: Aren't you a little old for high school parties, Valley Boy? College Guy: Oh god, don't tell me you're... Felicity: Uh huh! College Guy: Damn it! You better not tell Katie about this. Felicity: (pulling the girl away) Yeah, yeah, whatever! (They walk towards the door, and it cuts to the commercial card. The scene in which Haley and Seb are fighting is displayed.) -- Commercial Break -- (Cut to the after commercial card. The scene in which Felicity startles the College Guy into throwing his hands up is displayed.) EXT: On the steps of the apartment building. The girl and Felicity sit next to each other. (Felicity noticed that the girl was shivering, and she handed her coat to her. The girl accepted it.) Freshman Girl: Thanks for that. I'm Aurelia, by the way. Felicity: You're welcome. I'm Felicity. What grade are you in? Aurelia: I'm a freshman. How about you? Felicity: Junior here. (They remained silent for a few seconds. Felicity decided to joke a little bit, since the girl seemed pretty cold without a jacket.) Felicity: So, you're from California or something? Aurelia: Yeah, but then I moved to my dad's hometown a few states away a few months ago. And then he just decided to move here because he found some opportunity with his part of the company. He promised Grandma and Grandpa that his one and only daughter would go to Hartley Wallace, and here she is. At a party with no friends. Felicity: (She nodded.) Dang. Where in California did you live anyway? Aurelia: Just San Diego. Felicity: Oh. (Beat.) Um, I heard Comic Con's great. Aurelia: Yeah. And they have the baby sea lions where I lived. (They stand up, and look around.) Felicity: Do you know how to get home from here? Aurelia: No, not at all. I don't live near here, but my classmate Casey walked me here after she found out I was new around the area. (Felicity sat there and thought about it.) Felicity: (V.O., thought) Well, she needs to get home, so I can't just leave her out there to fend for herself. Should probably call Mom. (out loud) Hm. I'll walk you, then. Where do you live? (Aurelia fumbled in her purse, and took out a paper. She handed it over to Felicity, who squinted at the words. Fifth Avenue, huh...) Felicity: Okay, let's get going. (Both girls stand up.) (Felicity stops and takes out her phone and then she dials Daria. Cue the split screen between Felicity's street scene and Daria's scene at an unknown cafe.) (Daria is startled by the buzzing of her phone, and she answers the call.) Daria: Hey, Lis. It's only 9' o clock, what's going on? Felicity: Hi, mom. Change of plans, let's meet at Pizza World instead. Daria: (surprised) Oh. (She turns the left. Pan to the rest of the group of Jane, Gigi, and Mal.) We're moving. (Pan back to a solo shot of Daria, who turns to face the other way with her phone held to her ear.) I still need to know what's going on. (Cut to:) EXT: Outside an apartment building on Fifth Avenue. (Felicity and Aurelia arrive at the building.) Felicity: Alrighty, Mademoiselle, we've arrived at your grand estate. Aurelia: Thanks. (Aurelia was about to walk inside, when she turned around.) Aurelia: Actually, Fel, could you take me upstairs? I'm still a bit shaken afterwhat happened. I'm really sorry. Felicity: (She turned around, stopping in her tracks, and shook her head.) No, no. It's totally fine. Let's go in together. (Cut to:) INT: Inside the lobby of the apartment building (Felicity walks over to the door, and she opens it for Aurelia. They go inside and take the elevator up.) Felicity: So, what was that you just called me? Aurelia: Fel. I mean, I just thought that if we're gonna be friends I should give you a nickname or something. Felicity: We're friends? Aurelia: (showing regret) Oh, I'm really sorry... Felicity: (laughing) I'm joking. We can be friends. Aurelia: Oh! Well, you can call me Lia! (Cut to:) INT: The hallway of the second floor of Aurelia's apartment building, outside Unit 203. (Felicity rings the doorbell, and after a few seconds, a man opens the door. He seems quite tired, and his brown hair is ruffled.) Aurelia's Dad: Oh. Rory, you're here early. Felicity: Your dad's nickname for you is Rory? Aurelia: Yeah. Like that smart girl.[1] (The two girls started laughing.) Aurelia's Dad: I've never watched that show, and I've called you that since you were born. (He then eyes Felicity) Now, *this* isn't the girl that picked you up. Aurelia: Yeah. Unless she has blonde hair with the pink sequin dress. (Felicity chuckles, and then she checks her phone after it buzzes. She sees two texts from her mother: one reading out "They just served us our pies" and another reading out "Get over here before it gets cold." She looks around.) Aurelia's Dad: So, uh, you wanna come in... Um, Miss... (whispering over to Aurelia) What's her name? (Felicity looks back up at Aurelia's father.) Felicity: (nervously, speaking quickly) Felicity Morgendorffer, sir! I'm like, really in a hurry and my mom's waiting for me so I've got to skedaddle. (Aurelia's dad eyes widen at the last name "Morgendorffer.") Aurelia's Dad: Wait, Morgendorffer? Felicity: Yeah. Aurelia's Dad: Hold on, by any chance... (his words trailed off) (Felicity, looking back at the texts, already ran over to the elevator before he could say anything else.) (Cut to Aurelia standing outside the door with her dad, facing the elevator down the hallway.) Aurelia: Reminded you of someone? Aurelia's Dad: Hmmmm.. well, now that I think of it, the Morgendorffer I know would never name her kid Felicity. Maybe her sister would. (It cuts to a commercial card where Aurelia walks with Felicity down the street.) -- Commercial Break -- (Returns with a commercial card where Felicity calls up Daria.) (Cut to:) EXT: 98th Street Pizza World BGM: Toshinobu Kubota - La La La Love Song (Felicity enters from the left of the scene. She is panting, and she opens the door.) Felicity: (V.O., thought) Damn it! Is the pizza already cold?! (Cut to:) INT: 98th Street Pizza World (The music continues until Felicity sits.) (Felicity looks around, and finds the group at the table. She walks over to them.) Gigi: Well, at least it's still warm! Felicity: (sigh of relief, takes a seat) Yeah. (Felicity takes a slice, and eats it quickly.) Mal: Okay, Wonder Girl, spill it! Felicity: (laughing) Oh, stop calling me that! (serious) She was suffering there, what else was I supposed to do? Mal: Leave a freshman to fend for herself, duh. Felicity: (looking at Mal) Oh yeah. I forgot to tell you, your boyfriend's cheating on you. Mal: Oh my god. Don't tell me... (Cut to:) INT: Sunnyside Apartments, Unit 507, Felicity's Room BGM: Cake - Never There (Felicity, Gigi, and Mal all sit on one side of her bed. They are on speaker with some guy.) Mal: (angrily) What the hell? College Guy: (V.O.) I'm sorry, Katie! It didn't mean nothing. Mal: I swear to god! *This* is why you ghosted me? Gigi: Take him down, girl! College Guy: (V.O.) Damn it! I told that girl not to say anything! Felicity: (evidently insulted) What the hell'd you think I was gonna do? Mal: You're bored of me, so you go to a trust fund kid's party to pick up girls? College Guy: (V.O.) Katie, forgive me! Mal: No! And stop calling me Katie, you creep! (Mal hangs up the phone. She takes a deep breath.) Gigi: It's such a shame that Katie's such a cute name. Mal: Ugh, I knew I shouldn't have dived into dating guys like that. (changing the subject) Aaaanyway, did anything else happen? Felicity: Oh, this couple got into this fight and all. Mal: Oh. (Beat) How interesting. (Cut to Daria's Room) (Jane and Daria are sitting on the floor. They were listening closely to Felicity and Mal's conversation.) Jane: Well, Valley Boy got what he deserved. Daria: I'd say she should have come up with more insults. But that's just me. Gigi: (V.O., faintly) Aw, man! I could have ripped him up! Felicity: (V.O., faintly) Isn't the expression "ripped him a new one?" Mal: (V.O., faintly) Works either way. Daria: At least they thought about it. Jane: (Beat.) So... about Monday, I was kinda distracted, right. Daria: Well, I don't remember. But now you've got me curious. Jane: I saw Tom outside while we were talking about Lissy's first day of middle school. Daria: (Beat.) Which Tom? Jane: You know which Tom. Otherwise I wouldn't be telling you. Daria: Tom as in my senior year sweetheart. And? Jane: I dunno, Daria. It's been a while since we've seen him. Aren't you curious as to why he'd be hanging around there? Daria: He's rich and he's grown up to see the beauty of it. I mean, he can't be a rebel forever, you know. (Pan through the walls to Gigi, Mal, and Felicity trying to listen to their conversation, with their ears pressed against the wall.) (The credits roll and Dancing Queen by ABBA plays. Alter-egos are displayed.) ENDNOTES: [1] I wanted to reference Gilmore Girls, and so I did.
