(Opening card.) Felicity in "Odd Girl" Written by Adelina Peterson lovethebanglesforever (a) gmail.com (The episode starts as the instrumental of "Halfway Around The World" by A*Teens plays.) (Daria and Felicity walk down the street. Felicity is wearing her brand new school uniform. She wears a white shirt with a necktie and navy blue blazer over it, and a skirt the same color as her blazer on the bottom. The breast pocket of her blazer has the school emblem. However, even though her uniform is well put together, Felicity's hair remains quite messy. At least for a private school girl.) (The two pass the store "Memorabilia You Wanna See," nicknamed "The Memo Store," and two girls, Gigi and Mal run over to Felicity.) Gigi: Cici! Miss Morgendorffer, hey! Mal: (Goes in to hug Felicity) Aw, Cici! Key High is so gonna miss you! Good luck at rich people territory! Felicity: Oh, the football players that egged my locker are so gonna miss me. Mal: I mean, they didn't mean to egg *your* locker. (Gigi starts inspecting Felicity's uniform, making sounds of awe.) Gigi: Your uniform is so cute though.. Maybe I should get smart and Mr. Lawson's gonna write a letter of rec for me! Mal: Gigi, you failed Algebra. (They stand still for a few seconds before it cuts to the next scene. The transitional song is a short clip of The Real World by The Bangles.) EXT: Entrance to the 50th Street Station. (Cut to a scene where they walk downstairs to the station. Daria looks a teensy bit nervous, while Felicity just looks back at her with a confused look.) Felicity: Mom, are you really sure you're okay? Daria: Yeah. You got your lunch in your bag, right? Felicity: Yeah, Mom, you asked me that like 5 times. You sure you're okay? Daria: Well, I don't want to come home from work to see a $85 charge on my credit card because you forgot your home cooked lunch. Felicity: Oh, Mom, you know how much I love your organic, home-cooked Totino's Pizza Rolls. Daria: I think lunch is included in the tuition, actually. Enjoy your fettuccine alfredo. (They both enter inside the station.) INT: The station (Felicity suddenly stops and faces her mom.) Felicity: Mom, what are you doing? Daria: Well, I'm going the same way. I've got an errand. Felicity: (with suspicion) Near my school? Daria: Yeah. Felicity: (looking blankly) Okay then. (They continue walking. They swipe their Metro Cards and wait for the subway.) Felicity: Relax, Mom. I won't lose my way or anything like that. Daria: I'm not worried. (Beat.) I've got an errand. (Felicity looks over at her mom, and smiles. The subway comes in, and they board it together.) (Cut to the next scene.) EXT: Entrance of Hartley Wallace High School, Upper East Side BGM: The Bangles - The Real World (Daria and Felicity still stick together until they reach the school. They walk together, and they stand a few feet away from the entrance door. Pan across the students standing around. The crowds hang out outside the school, talking and probably waiting for their friends before they go inside. Cut back to a front view of the mother-daughter pair.) Daria: Okay, Lis. Here's good? Felicity: (smile) Yeah. Thanks, Mom. (Daria watches Felicity as she enters the school. Felicity turns back, and she waves. She then walks into the school, and Daria can't see her anymore. She then goes back the same way she came from.) INT: Hallways of Hartley Wallace High School (Felicity walks inside, and she goes to the front desk.) Felicity: Hi, Miss, where do I get my classes? Secretary: You should have gotten your schedule in the mail 2 weeks ago. Felicity: Oh. Must have gotten lost in the mail. (Beat) Could I have a copy? Secretary: Yes. Your last name? Felicity: Morgendorffer. Secretary: (while tapping the keyboard) Ah. Outstanding young lady you are. You're the first full scholarship we've had in a while. Felicity: (V.O., thought) Dang, Mr. Lawson. You're never gonna beat the mafia allegations. (out loud) Uh, yeah! Secretary: (While getting up to get the paper from the printer) Well, this school's a bit tough, but I'm sure you'll do great. Felicity: Yeah. (She walks over and hands Felicity the paper.) Secretary: Best of luck. Felicity: (grabbing the paper) Thanks. (Cut to the next scene) INT: Pizza Blues n' More, 5th Ave., near The Museum of Modern Art BGM: Fiona Apple - Criminal (Jane and Daria sit in front of each other. It's not a booth, but they're eating good pizza here, and that's all that matters.) Jane: So, what'cha doing out of that little *cubicle* you love so much? Daria: I took the day off today. Jane: (nodding) And you walked Felicity to school. Daria: Yeah... (She looks down at her pizza solemnly.) (Daria has a flashback from 5 years ago) EXT: Harmon Middle School (A sixth grade Felicity had an angry look on her face as her mother escorted her to her school.) Gigi: Um, Cici, you know, it's not that bad that your mom has to come along...? Felicity: Ugh, just tell me the truth, Gigi. It's embarrassing that I'm in middle school, and I'm still being escorted by my MOM! Gigi: No, really Cici! Believe me, your mom's like, really cool! She doesn't look a day over 18, I swear! Don't believe a word Harry says about her! But, you like him don't you... Anyway! People are so gonna think she's in like high school or something! Felicity: If she were on Glee! Gigi: Oh... But normal middle schoolers can't see the difference between real high schoolers and Glee high schoolers! Daria: Lis, you may think you're all that, but you're still too young to be walking around all by yourself. Bear with me. Felicity: It's not BY MYSELF! It's with Gigi, I'll be super fine! Daria: I'm a mom, Felicity. Felicity: (shaking her head) Ugh, I hate you, Mom! (She grabs Gigi's hand tightly and marches toward school, leaving Daria behind.) (Back to the present.) Jane: You're still thinking about Lissy's first day of sixth grade? Daria: (in protest) I'm just wondering if she still thought that way. (Jane looked out the window, and then she stared, as if she were trying to look closer at something.) Daria: Jane? Jane: (startled) Well, did you think the same way from the age 11 to 16? Daria: Pretty much. Jane: (sigh) Should've guessed. -- Commercial Break -- (Cut to the next scene, in which Felicity goes to her first period class.) INT: Room 35, Mr. Patterson's Classroom BGM: Frank Sinatra by Cake (At a desk at the front of the classroom everyone was crowded around the seating chart. Felicity pushed her head in between and saw her name. She then sat accordingly.) (As the class gets seated, the teacher goes to the front of the classroom where the whiteboard is. He looks down at the seating chart and back up.) Mr. Patterson: Surprisingly, all of you are in your correct seats. Ahem. Welcome to AP English Language and Composition. I hope all of you have done your homework assignments, but I'll collect them at the end of the week, so no need to panic. Kind of. (There was a moment of silence as Mr. Patterson tried to remember what he was going to say.) Mr. Patterson: Oh yeah, and if you didn't get the assignment in the mail whatsoever, make sure you talk to me after class or during lunch break. (Felicity sighed a sigh of relief as she took out a notebook.) (Cut to after class, where Mr. Patterson gives Felicity the packet.) Felicity: Thank you, sir. Mr. Patterson: Oh, no problem. Glad to see some new faces around here. Have a terrific year. (Felicity walks out of class and is suddenly stopped by a boy. This boy was definitely not in her class. She looks at him with a confused look.) Boy: Hey. Felicity: Um, hi? Boy: So, you're Felicity Morgendorffer, right? Felicity: Yep. Boy: Is it true that you have a deadbeat dad? (Felicity almost laughs, and becomes slightly irritated.) EXT: The entrance to Hartley Wallace BGM: Taylor Swift - Better Than Revenge (Instrumental) (Cut to after school. Felicity walks out the school doors, and notices Gigi and Mal waiting for her on the sidewalk. She walks over to them. The music fades when she starts to talk to them.) Felicity: Hey, you guys! (She hugs both of them upon seeing them. She then lets go.) Felicity: So, what happened to school? Gigi: Start date was pushed to Wednesday. Mal: Mr. Lawson forgot to remind everyone that the start date was today, so he just pushed it to Wednesday because half the school forgot. Felicity: Oh, classic Mr. Lawson! (They then started walking down the street) Gigi: So, how was school, Wonder Girl[1]? Felicity: (laughing) Get out of your head, Gigi. I'm not a heroine or anything. Mal: And no woman in the real world would want a guy like Gu Jun-pyo! Gigi: But he's super rich! (They all burst out laughing.) Gigi: Anyway, so you gotta tell me all the details about this school! Felicity: (sigh) Well, you've got a bunch of rich kids, that's a start. And there's um... hard classes too. Mal: (groaning in frustration) Alright, alright! We get the basic stuff, now give us what we really want! Felicity: Okay, fine! So basically, some kid just went up to me and asked me... Gigi: (suddenly) WHAT DID HE ASK?! Felicity: (startled) IF I ACTUALLY HAD A DEADBEAT DAD! (There was silence between the three for a brief 2 seconds.) Mal: That's the big thing? Gigi: I mean, it is rude. Felicity: Yeah! It's not like my dad even knows I exist. As far as I know. I don't even know who he is in the first place. He's not even in my birth certificate. Mal: Well, have you ever asked your mom about him? Felicity: No, because I'm totally fine with the fact that my dad is somewhere out in the world doing perfectly fine without the knowledge of my existence. (She then started to raise her voice a bit.) Of course, I have! But every time I ask, Mom just changes the topic. Gigi: Oh yeah! We came up with a name for this in 4th grade. Gigi & Felicity: (in unison) The one question she'll never answer. INT: Sunnyside Apartments, Unit 507, Living Room (Cut to Daria returning home, going through the front door with a pizza box in her hands. She looks over in Felicity and Mal's direction and just stares at them.) (Felicity notices Daria's stare, and meets her eyes.) Felicity: Oh, Mom. You're back. Daria: Yeah. (They looked at each other for another second, and Felicity turned her head back to the TV because of the awkwardness.) (Felicity and Mal continued to watch TV in silence, before Felicity spoke up.) Felicity: New episode of Teenage Alpha, Cory Truesdale. Mal: (trying to liven up the mood) TACT for short! (Felicity and Mal looked at Daria with blank stares. Becoming bothered by this amount of awkwardness, Felicity spoke up about the situation.) Felicity: Uh... you can say it. Daria: Were you bothered by me walking you to school today? (Felicity took a moment to process that and then burst out laughing.) Felicity: What am I, in the 6th grade? Daria: Oh. (She smiles the tiniest bit.) (They stared at each other again until Daria set the pizza down on the dining table.) Daria: I brought pizza. Mal: (Immediately going to the pizza box to eat) Oh, sweet! Thanks, Miss Morgendorffer! I'm so hungry I could eat a- (She opens the box to see only two slices of pizza left.) Mal: (disappointed) Ah. Daria: I didn't know you'd come here. Mal: (confused) I'm here everyday, Miss Morgendorffer. Daria: Lis, is that true? Felicity: Yeah, pretty much. She just goes back to her dad's in time for her shift at the Memo Store. Mal: (startled by the sudden mention of her father's store, she looked at the clock and got up) Speaking of which, I'm running late. See you. (She took a paper towel and took both slices of pizza to go. She walked nonchalantly out of the apartment.) (Now that there was no viable options for dinner in their unit, and Daria wasn't really up to cooking on this fine day, they had to go out and buy food when it was practically night.) Daria: Blue Ribbons or Terry's? Felicity: You already know what I'm gonna choose. ~Commercial Break~ INT: Terry's Tacos BGM: Mai Kuraki - Stepping Out (The restaurant is located on the first floor of the building, right under Sunnyside Apartments. Daria and Felicity have two plates of tacos right in front of them.) Daria: So, how was the pasta at school? Felicity: Oh, I ate the pizza rolls. Daria: Cool. Felicity: Peak cuisine. Thanks, Mom. (They continued to eat.) Felicity: So, how was the errand? Daria: It was great. Jane and I went out and splurged at Chanel and then we ran into Brittany from high school and we ended up signing up for a Zumba class. Felicity: (laughing) I knew it. Did you buy me a brand new dolly at the American Girl store too? Daria: Of *course*, anything for my *sweet* sweet baby. Felicity: Oh, Mommy! (Cut to a scene in which Jane is waiting for Gigi to finish her soccer practice.) EXT: Key High School, W. 47th Street (Gigi approaches Jane, and she waves at her. She gets in front of her and she looks a bit exhausted from practice.) Jane: Hey, Gigi. Your mom forgot she was supposed to walk you home so she agreed to do a gig at The Wild House tonight. So, I'm here. Gigi: Oh, cool! Let's visit her on the way! (They started walking.) Jane: So. I take it today you didn't fall on your face today at practice. Good job. Gigi: Thanks, Miss Lane! I try. But I hurt my knee instead. Jane: It's a start. (They come across The Wild House, and Gigi stares inside at her mother, clearly playing the piano. She turns back to the road.) Gigi: Phew! You weren't lying! Jane: About what? Gigi: Well, my mom said that I shouldn't go with any adults ever, even if they're her friends. But I was like "Oh, it's just Miss Jane! Cici's almost aunt! She couldn't do anything!" (She stops to drink her water. She gulps the water from her hydro flask.) But then I started thinking "What if she does something?" And then I got worried for a second. Jane: Yeah, but what you really gotta be careful of is those aliens that dress up as your parents and sneak inside your house. (Gigi stopped and stared at Jane with wide eyes, in shock.) Jane: (worried) Sorry, Gigi. It was a joke. Gigi: (sigh of relief) Oh, phew! Anyway, anything happening lately? Jane: (thinking) Mmm.. Well... Should I say it.. (Gigi got closer to Jane's face.) Gigi: What is it, Miss Lane?! You gotta tell me! I won't tell anyone ever! (Jane looked closely at Gigi. She didn't believe she was not going to tell anyone, but she could tell that she was dying to know.) Jane: You know that guy that kissed Miss Morgendorffer while he was dating me? Gigi: Oh my god...! What happened to him? Did he die? Jane: (shaking her head) Oh, no. But today, I saw him out the window while I was eating at Pizza N' Blues with Miss Morgendorffer. Gigi: (surprised) OH MY GOD! I gotta tell Mal! (She suddenly took off forward before Jane could say anything else.) (Cut to a scene of just Jane standing.) Jane: Well, she's outta here. EXT: 50th Street BGM: ABBA - Money Money Money (Cut to a scene of Gigi running down 50th Street to the Memo Store. The sky has turned dark, but it seems urgent. She is holding her duffle bag, a sign that she was gonna sleep over at Mal's.) (Mal was at the door locking up, but Gigi knocked on the door, signaling her to open up because what she had to say was big.) Mal: (mouthing) What is it? (Gigi just had a pleading look in her face and started fidgeting. Beat, Mal opens the door and lets in Gigi. After she gets in, she immediately shuts the door.) Mal: Okay, you run here in a rush on a Monday night, what's goin' on? Gigi: The Boys Over Flowers[2] Situation was on Fifth Street! Miss Lane said! Mal: (surprised) Boys Over-- Like, Miss Lane and Miss Morgendorffer's Boys Over Flowers Situation?! Gigi: Um, YEAH! Mal: Okay, okay. Well, uh, rich people are always on Fifth Street! He's probably just visiting or something. Gigi: (She thought for a second.) You know what? You're right. (They just stood there, staring at each other. Gigi broke the silence.) Gigi: Can I still sleep over? Mal: (looking at Gigi's duffle bag) Sure. (Both girls stood there, wondering what to do now that they're having a sleepover.) Gigi: Umm.. should we call Miss Quinn? I still haven't congratulated her on her marriage with that Jamie guy. Mal: Well, does it look like we have anything else to do? Gigi: Didn't you say you had that AP Psychology summer assignment? Mal: (Beat.) Fuck! (The credits start rolling as "The Hero Takes The Fall" by The Bangles plays. Alter-egos appear on the screen as usual.) ENDNOTES: [1] "Wonder Girl" is the nickname the main character has in the Korean adaptation of Boys Over Flowers after she saves a boy from dying. Gigi uses this name to poke fun at how Felicity attends an elite school. [2] Boys Over Flowers is a manga in which a poor girl transfers to an elite school and falls in love with a rich guy despite her initial hatred for him. Jane or Daria never said Tom's name in their stories about him, so Felicity's group calls him the Boys Over Flowers Situation.
